banks, the root of all evil!

So its just been announced that the banks have won their appeal in the mass exodus of a case that was consumers vs banks re; bank charges. Apparently we as consumers agree to these 'unfair' charges banks spring on us for going a mere 5p over our limit, when we sign up to an account. Well have they ever taken a second to think that we NEED accounts?! Thats unfair, obviously they've taken a second but it doesn't seem to have sunk in - of course we have to sign up to accounts that make use of these charges (in tiny small print I might add) because without a bank account in this day and age, you're more or less screwed! Not got a bank account? Can't pay many bills which now require to be paid by direct debit, oh and the main one - can't get paid from most jobs to get the money to pay the bills in the first place!

I'm ranting. Its irritating, as had consumers won over the banks this time round I myself would have been able to claim back a considerable amount of money from when I moved out whilst at college - I ended up with quite a lot of fees as it just turns into a neverending cycle - get charged, pay charge, get charged again as the money you used to pay the previous charge was needed to pay another bill, and another. It goes on. ARGH. The money would have been awesomely helpful to me for travelling in January - can't say I was ever relying on it but it would have been helpful nonetheless.

Rant over. Honest. It just really really shocked me, walking past the TV with sky news on it whilst at work and seeing the breaking news headline 'banks win supreme court appeal' - an appeal which the Office of Fair Trading told them they weren't allowed in the first place! >:(

With the rant over, I've managed to save £500 of my November pay cheque, so well done me. Do that a few more times, and with my Christmas money from club work and hopefully my lovely generous family, and I'll be sorted. 48 days until I'm off! :) And now I'm off to my lunch break, to continue reading Eclipse. :D
