January 31st

Day 2 on the farm. Well, second full day anyway. We don't know yet what hours we're doing today, though they let us have a lie in so we're not starting til 10. We know we're working 10 til 12 but then don't know if they want us to work this afternoon. Apparently we'll either be working or blackberry picking, so hey! Not all bad and all that.

Tried my phone card on the phone this morning and it doesn't work, bit of a blow. Be nice to hear a friendly voice seeing as I can't talk to them online at the moment. Meh.

Right... so scratch everything I wrote really lol. We got ready for ten and headed out to the shed to grab our hoes and ran into Katie who was a bit annoyed (though not at us) and told us that she'd said we were meant to have the day off. Classic miscommunication between her and Phil. Either way, we headed back and proceeded to spend the day doing not an awful lot. I read a book by Patricia Cornwell, 'Blowfly'. Quite coincidental because I think the last time I read one of her books was last time I was in Aus, and I read quite a few! Anyway.. at one point we went out with Katie to look at some owls in a tree, they were pretty cool. She showed us a bunch of photos on her computer that previous backpackers who'd worked here had taken on her computer, there were some pretty cool ones. Unfortunately her computer died when we tried to go online so couldn't email anyone to let them know I'm ok!

Later on we went blackberry picking and got loads, mwah! On the way back we saw some wallabies that we initially mistook for kangaroos. Later on made dinner, was nice. I even participated with my non existent cooking skills - I grated beetroot and cut up melon for the salad. Whoop whoop? Was a pretty nice dinner actually, barbecue stuff with pumpkin and salad. Pumpkin was surprisingly nice, yes, I tried it. Surprising I know. Blackberries with heated muesli for desert... sounds odd but was actually really nice! No one stayed up late after dinner, we were all pretty tired after our day of nothing and knew we had an early start on Monday (though not as early as usual, 8 instead of 6!)
