Friday 12th February
Start time was 6:30am, though I got the impression this changed depending on work. There was only 2 of us because it was a pretty simple job (although the farm actually requested two boys and got sent two girls, whoops). We had loads of breaks, about 30 minutes for 'smoko' which is morning break, and then about 1 hour for lunch. As well as frequent breaks for drinks of water and just to cool down a bit in the shade. They also had spare water for us, handy as we both ran out - I don't think *anywhere* else does that! Awesome people on this farm. Not only that, but when we finished they had made a little snack tea for us - crackers with cheese and tomato, and then flapjacks and biscuits as well as tea and cold water. I was so surprised (and happy, it was yummy!) - besides this, they were just genuinely lovely people.
All we were doing was literally walking round a field, picking up sticks (and later in the day rocks as well) to prepare the field for planting. The farmers son drove round on a quad bike which had a metal contraption with two wooden 'bins' on the back and we just loaded the bins up, and when they were full took them to two piles of sticks which were later to be burnt. After we finished the sticks, we did the same with rocks, and unloaded them into a ditch at the back of the field. Didn't ask about music as there were only three of us on the field, besides we were talking all day so no real need for music.
